Some songs you write. Others show up already alive.
“Born With The Horns” was one of those—but we still had to fight to make it what you hear now.

Of the five tracks on our debut EP Horseshoes, Handgrenades, and Bikinis, this one stands out. It’s pulled in over 100,000 streams on Spotify and nearly 12,000 views on the official YouTube video—and it’s still growing. More importantly, it captures our live while you’re alive message and continues to reach new listeners far beyond our own backyard.

The inspiration came from Jared and Nicohl’s niece. She’s still young, but even as a toddler, it was obvious—she was born to rock and roll. Not because of the darker stereotypes that sometimes surround rock, but because of the raw energy, freedom, and life it gives you. Some people discover rock. Others already have it in their blood.

Rock has always carried a reputation—drugs, sex, devil imagery, all the things people love to argue about. And sure, historically, that reputation didn’t come out of nowhere. But that’s not the whole story. At its core, rock is rebellion—not against morality, but against silence… against being told to stay small… against anything that keeps you from feeling fully alive.

Before the band officially came together, Jared and Nicohl had already recorded an early version of “Born With The Horns” and shared it with industry pros. The response was strong—people saw real potential in it. We did too. So we got to work.

Because the truth is, most songs don’t arrive finished. This one didn’t. We rewrote, tweaked, reworked, got feedback, and did it all over again. Structure tightened. Lyrics refined. Small changes that made a big impact. Then we took it into the studio and brought it to life.

That scream at the beginning? It gets a lot of attention now—but it was one of the last things we added. Coming from a jazz, blues, and classical background, screaming wasn’t exactly in my wheelhouse. But Jared heard it, pushed for it, and I was willing to go there. Ironically, the drummer ended up coaching the vocalist—and nailed it. The result is something we’re incredibly proud of, and the response has been amazing. Even Lorraine Lewis of Vixen gave us a shoutout on Instagram, which was a pretty surreal moment.

Midway through the track, we pay homage to some early heavy metal legends with nods to “Heaven and Hell” (Black Sabbath), “Man on a Silver Mountain” (Rainbow), and “Heads Are Gonna Roll” (Judas Priest). Narrowing it down was brutal—we could go on forever about the songs that shaped us—but we kept it tight to serve the track. From there, Brian launches into a solo inspired by bands like April Wine, with a touch of Welcome to the Jungle energy in the intro.

We actually shot the music video before the recording was even finished. A friend from Canada, Craigery Dennis, was in town working on a documentary, and we jumped at the chance to collaborate. That decision helped bring the full concept of the song to life.

The video is all kids—because that’s what this song is really about. Being born with something inside you that can’t be taught. My youngest son plays guitar, Jared’s nephew is on bass, my nephew is on drums, and Craig’s daughter fronts the band. The rest of the cast is made up of family and close friends. The story follows them gearing up to play a “show” in the park—and honestly, filming it felt like exactly that. Pure joy. Every kid on set was fully in it, living their rockstar moment.
