The Show Vs. The Recording

Currently we're in the studio working diligently on the ever illusive perfection of our next album.  As recording musicians we go to great lengths to get it just right. We want that lightning in a bottle.  We practice endlessly, use metronomes, debate the best use of a guitar here or a keyboard there. We record take after take, after take of the same thing until it’s just right. And then we do it again.  We get nitty gritty on subtle things that the average listener won’t even register.  Finally, we release this precious gift into the world, you as the listener, get the absolute best of our creative energy.

So why would you ever want to go to a show?

Shows are messy, and imperfect.  Some performers don’t or can’t even bring a full band with them so they just sing and play to backing tracks like karaoke. Even big touring acts will utilize backing tracks to fill in for instruments and sounds they don’t want to trigger from stage.  There’s a lot of effort put into making the show sound as close as possible to the recording.

But I think they’re getting it wrong.

As fans we pay for tickets, fees, and parking.  We drive the extra mile, stand in long lines in bad weather, cram elbow to elbow in front of the stage or sit in uncomfortable bleachers, pay outlandish fees for concessions, then sit in the traffic jam afterwards.  We do all of this for an imperfect experience with the artists we love.

And that is exactly the point-  It's an experience.

The best shows aren’t about the recording, but about experiencing the artist on another level.

The show is a completely different beast.

For us, in an effort to create the experience, we bring lights, fog machines, bubble machines, and (when allowed) we even have pyro!  We dial in the PA sound as best we can based on the acoustics of the venue.  It’s really important to us that our fans love their time with us.  We find ways to get you to dance and sing and clap.  We do extended solos, tell stories, get feedback, and make jokes.  We really want to drive home our message that life is for living right now, and to the fullest.

The recording is all about our art, and expressing that to the world.  We love that this expression resonates with you.  You hear these songs and they move you because you get what the song is all about.

But the show….

That’s all about you!

Our fans.

Every bit of it.

We want to make your life energetic, engaging, memorable, and inspired for the time we’re together.

So what we really want to do is ask you- What is your most memorable show?  And, how can we continue to up our bar to make your life the best it can be when we’re together?
